Overview
The Youth Empowerment Centers (YEC) provide activities and services to at risk youth ages 11-19, including after-school educational and recreational programs/activities. The YEC focuses on empowering youth, promoting education, promoting health, promoting leadership and community involvement.
Services and Activities
A partial list of after-school and during the summer services and activities provided by the YECs are as follows:
- Homework assistance, tutoring and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) skill building
- Mentoring support
- Life skills, financial literacy and leadership skills training
- College readiness and tours
- Career exploration/readiness, employability skills training, summer internships and job placement assistance
- Community service projects incorporating reflective learning
- Connectivity to resources
- Youth/teen advisory council meetings to recommend programs, activities and policy for the YECs
- Other services and supports
