COVID-19 UPDATE FOR HOSPITALS AND HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS
Florida Statute 406.11(1)(a)11 delineates that the Medical Examiner of the district in which the death occurred shall determine cause of death if the death is caused by disease constituting a threat to public health. If your healthcare facility has a death secondary to COVID-19 please report the death to the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner's Office at (561) 688-4575. Determination of transport of the decedent's body to the Medical Examiner's Office will depend on the available information and will be determined on a case by case basis. Medicolegal Death Investigators are available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
The Medical Examiner's Office conducts investigations of violent, sudden, unexpected, and suspicious deaths occurring within the County, or any death where there is no doctor in attendance, in accordance with the parameters established by Florida State Statutes. The office functions as a repository for records, documents and photographs generated during investigation of a death.
